PROCESSING IMAGES
Image Capture
I mainly use a Canon EOS 5D DSLR which records images at a very respectable 12.8MP. Where possible images are taken using a tripod to maximise stability, but where handheld I use the built-in image stabiliser of the professional 'L' series lenses.

Image Processing
I pay great attention to image quality, shooting mainly in RAW format and carefully post-processing each image in Adobe Photoshop CS2 to perform selective adjustments to contrast, shadows, highlights, saturation and finally sharpening. I will also remove dust spots and any other minor distractions as required.

Editing is done in 16-bit mode to retain as much detail as possible and then images are saved as 8-bit TIFF files allowing very large prints to be produced without losing quality. The majority of the images on this website can be printed at A3 and above.

Here is an image that has been shot in RAW format. The in-camera functions to colour and sharpen are automatically turned off and hence the image appears flat and colourless.

Original RAW image

Canon EOS 5D, Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM , 1/200 sec at f8, Handheld IS

The image is now processed in Photoshop to bring it back to life. The annoying leaf has also been removed from Badger's mouth !

Final TIFF image

An enlarged portion of the final image shows all the fine detail that has been captured. To do this picture justice it would be better printed at a large size.
