October 2007
The break in the summer weather has allowed me to increase my porfolio of animal and bird images.
I recently purchased a second camera body, a Canon EOS 30D which has a high resolution of 8.2MP. It has two distinct advantages over my favourite Canon EOS 5D, a smaller sensor size giving an increased magnification factor of 1.6x, and it shoots at 5 frames per second. Coupled with my Canon EF 500mm f4 L IS USM and a teleconverter, this makes a respectable wildlife combination.
On occasions, I have used both cameras with assorted lenses to capture the same subject - its amazing how many frames and storage cards you get through this way. I now carry a 40GB storage device around with me, just in case !
My wildlife theme has continued with a local Business Park extending my work from earlier this year by asking me to take some shots of the wildlife within the park which includes a large river and artificial lake. This is proving to be quite challenging but I have managed to get some shots of the Herons, geese and ducks even though it has been nearly impossible to sneak up on them unseen !
It is great to get out and about visiting different places and this year one of the events I was particularly keen to return to was the Yeovilton Airshow. I am always facinated by aircraft and when they are flying right in front of you, you begin to get an idea of just how powerful these beasts are.
Out of several hundred shots, one of the most exciiting images I was able to capture was this F16 Fighting Falcon in a rapid climb. The commentator announced that 'if he puts his foot down, he will be in Scotland in roughly 15 minutes time'.
Our family holiday this year was to Tunisia, famous for its architecture, desert and camels. With blue skies everyday and temperatures reaching over 40°C on some days, it was ideal weather for photography. I did, however, travel light and left my large lens and tripod at home.
Needless to say, we have come back with the compulsory souvenirs after many hours spent haggling over cups of mint tea ! I hope to add more of my holiday snaps in the coming weeks.
You may have noticed that I have been busy updating my website to include some new features such as a private gallery section where customers can logon and view work in progress and a latest photos gallery to show the most recent additions. Many pages have been re-written and I have even re-designed the home page. Any comments would be welcome on the new look !
If you have a website and would be interested in exchanging links, then please contact me. I now have a selection of banner images together with the appropriate code for you to copy and paste into your web page.
I look forward to hearing from you.
